Your comprehensive guide to North & Central America
Dreams are made in North America, a part of the world where it really feels like anything is possible. Our map of North America will help you plan the perfect trip.
Star of a million movies and the birthplace of countless bright ideas, the USA feels more like a continent than a country, home to just about every imaginable landscape, including vast prairies, arid deserts and show-stealing beaches. Dozens of the world’s best-known cities are found here, providing endless opportunities for culinary and cultural exploration.
Although the USA’s influence is felt far beyond its shores, Canada has retained its unique identity. Forest still covers much of the country, including large swathes of the seriously photogenic Banff National Park, home to glaciers and grizzly bears.
Mexico is a whole world away: its cactus-studded plains, swampy mangrove forests, chaotic cities, tropical beaches and Mayan ruins could keep you busy for months on end.
Paradise is easy enough to track down. Just head for the cluster of small nations located between the two Americas, and you’ll find warm, clear waves lapping at sparkling stretches of sand, plus coconut groves that dance in the ocean breeze. As our map of Central America and the Caribbean shows, there’s plenty of coastline to go around.
But this region isn’t just for beach bums. From the hustle of Havana to the boozy bars of Panama City, there’s a life-affirming energy in the air. Dance the night away with a glass (or three) of local rum; steer your surfboard through perfect, barrel-shaped waves; or save your strength for trips inland.
Cacophonous jungles await exploration in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, while partially overgrown Mayan ruins beg to be uncovered in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Add in smouldering volcanoes, abandoned Spanish buildings, cool cloud forests, and – yes – sloths, and it’s unlikely you’ll ever want to leave.
Your American adventure starts here.
